Railway Dining & The Dome Diner Restoration Process
May 16 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
In this 1-hour program, hear a brief history of dining on the rails, see examples of railroad china, and tour the newest restoration project at the National Railroad Museum, the Union Pacific Dome Diner.
The presentation will be in the museum’s theater with a 40-minute presentation on dining cars, the dining service and railroad china. The program will conclude with a 20-minute tour of the Union Pacific Dome Diner Car in the Restoration Center and an explanation of the restoration process. Participants will also be provided with selected recipes used on dining cars from the Atlantic Coast Line and the Union Pacific. The museum is accessible; however, there is uneven terrain on the path from the main building to the restoration facility. The Union Pacific Dome Dining Car is not wheelchair accessible.
